Today I'm sharing a simple recipe for quick, grain-free chicken carrot balls that your dog will love. Last year it was the carrot apple cookies, and this time there's meat in the mix.
Since my time is always in short supply, I love recipes that require little effort and produce a quick result (read: treats) for Murphy & Archie.
Ingredients
Shopping list:
- 400g minced meat – in our case chicken, because of Archie's diet. But you can also use beef mince if your dog tolerates it.
- 3–4 medium carrots
- 1 small courgette, or 1 large one — but then only use 2/3 of it ;)
- 1 large egg
Kitchen equipment
What you'll need:
- Chopping board
- Grater
- Knife
- Bowl for mixing
- Fork and cup for beating the egg
- Baking tray with baking paper

Here's how to make the chicken carrot balls!
Take the carrots, peel them and grate them.
Important! Squeeze the juice out of the finely grated carrots really well.
Once the carrots are well squeezed out, you can throw them into the bowl. Do the same with the courgette — you don't need to peel it. And the same rule applies here: squeeze out the moisture — otherwise the mixture for the chicken carrot balls will be too wet and won't bake through properly.
Now you can beat the egg in a cup, add the mince to the vegetables and mix everything together until you have a smooth, uniform mixture.

Now shape small balls from the mixture and place them on a tray lined with baking paper. Once you're done, pop the little balls into the fan oven at 180 degrees Celsius for approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
By the way, I filled one full baking tray and baked the remaining dough the next day.
The chicken carrot balls should be eaten fairly quickly, as the mince means their shelf life is limited. They're definitely fine for 2 to 3 days.
Finally, the little sweethearts have to be patient until the treats have cooled down. But then it's time to dig in!

Bon appétit to the dogs!!
PS: the chicken carrot balls are also perfectly edible for two-legged friends ;)
