Another year is drawing to a close. For many it has been exhausting and draining. For some especially meaningful and exciting. Either way — I wish YOU from the bottom of my heart a peaceful Christmas with your loved ones!
Let's do it like our dogs do and enjoy the moment! With that in mind, I hope the poem of the Christmas dog can bring a smile to your face.
The Christmas Dog
Have you heard the story of the Christmas dog?
Telling it now is the order of the hour!
Christmas Eve is standing right outside the door,
our furry-nosed friends have a sense for what's in store.
Families, friends, both big and small,
welcome everyone into the festive home, one and all.
Our hairy companions want to join us by the tree,
so let's fulfil their fondest dream with glee!
A sniff here and a sniff there.
Where's the perfect spot to go? Who knows where?
He's just barely managing to hold back the urge,
while all the festive preparations around him surge.
Loyal and true is our four-legged friend all year,
but suddenly dog hair turns up in the cookie dough — oh dear!
A floury white paw print on the rug,
toward the Christmas tree he flees — the little bug!
Red bauble, fairy lights, Christmas hat —
oops! Does the Christmas dog leave a little puddle, fancy that?
He does end up lifting his leg for relief.
But nobody can stay cross with him — beyond belief.
A small spot beneath the tree,
we say nothing and wipe it away, quick as can be.
Now the whole family comes trickling in,
the pup wants to be right in the thick of it.
In the kitchen today, everyone helps dear Mamaaa,
the whole colourful crowd pressing close around her.
Soon the festive meal is laid,
the Christmas dog spots the roast and launches a raid!
Magically drawn in by that irresistible smell,
the leg of meat has vanished — he's cast a spell!
Yummy. Scrummy. Smack. Smack. Smack.
He'll always be our darling — there's no going back.
And since the Christ Child flies past tonight on his round,
the fuzzy rascal gets a brand new toy to be found!
The little, cheeky Christmas dog
makes his rounds after the gift-giving, all agog.
He bestows his own gifts with great flair:
gratitude, love and mischief beyond compare!
